The National Archives

We visited The National Archives after class today!

The National Archives are the national archives for the United Kingdom. The archives, originally known as the Public Records Office, was founded in 1838 after Henry Cole found a dead rat with a stomach full of chewed-up government records. Cole took the rat to Parliament as evidence that they should create a safer place to store records. As a Ratcliffe, I very much appreciated this anecdote!

We visited the Suffragettes vs. The State exhibit. This was expertly organized, with a good balance between archival material and interactive components.
